There is nothing in the Pakistani fashion industry that is less than the other fashion industries in the world and that this diligence cannot be compared to the international fashion scene. I have never ever underestimated our fashion because it is never the less as hip, glamorous and as happening as anywhere in the world.

As I walked in the Marquee Hall of Pearl Continental Karachi, I was stunned and more was star struck at the grandeur and glamour of the place where an array of stars including designers, models and stylist and other personalities from the fashion fraternity were gathered under one roof.

The red carpet is always a thing for these celebs to mingle around get them photo snapped by the photographers and shun our eyes with star beauty. To me that is THE MOMENT of the evening. Actress Mansha Pasha was hosting the red carpet moments and was interviewing the stars. HSY, Adnan Malik, Tapu Jaweri, Saba from SABS Salon, Rizwanullah, Humaima Malik and others were notably seen on the red carpet. There was also a picture booth set by the Toni & Guy ‘Hair Meet Wardrobe’ where Freeha Altaf and Adnan Malik had a little chit chat and then the gorgeous Humaima Malik with her specific Toni & Guy hairdo and outfit by Shehla Shakoor was revealed. Ooh lala! Humaima looked hot and classy as ever :)

As I moved towards the white floored long ramp, the area was thronged with spectators. People from the fashion fraternity and a huge crowd of photographers were prominently seen.  Anyways, the first show started at around 8:30 and everyone sat excited in their seat waiting for the show to begin. And then at last the day 1 show 1 commenced with tremendous lights settings and amazing background music that gave the perfect feel of the surrounding.

The show was opened by HSY’s collection. Classy and chic as they always turn out to be. Then came the collaborated collection of Shehla Shakoor with Toni & Guy called ‘Hair Meet Wardrobe’.

Rising Graduates of Indus Valley School of Art also displayed their talent through their collections on the ramp of FPW 2014. These young and talented and upcoming designers included Rabya Iftekhar, Faiz Rohani and Abel Emmanuel.

Then came the ramp collection of the emerging LALA Textiles. The gorgeous Iman Ali was the show stopper who amazed the audience with her stunning beauty and unique style.

Other notable designers of the fashion fraternity including Deepak Parwani and HSY also walked in on the ramp making the crowd go all crazy.

Iraj, Nadia Hussain, Ayyan Malik, Rabya Chaudhry, Neha, Abbas Jaffery, Amnah Ilyas and other upcoming models displayed the collection of the designers on the #FPWS2014 ramp.

Cheers :D

The 1st on the list to begin the final day was the label ‘Kuki Concepts’ with the collection titled ‘Mah-e-Nau’ (the new moon) taking its inspiration from the moon. The opening Act comprised of short shirts, Cholis, Knee Length Ghagras & long coats.

The scene on the ramp became quite confusing & the inspiration was not portrayed properly. I thought maybe the label has some more to come out with. But there was disappointment after disappointment. Much experimented men’s line but the label failed to execute it.

The 3rd set after the fancy & Reds was White, which actually makes you realize the inspiration is Moon. But the last set also didn’t have any intriguing factor.

The next showcasing was done by Uzma Baber. I actually liked her collection outline in the news letter. The collection was given the name, ‘Jhill Mill’. Simple, traditional yet trendy. Not much to say about, The Silhouette would be preferred by different classes, regions & cultures with in the country.

The set 1 was ended by the spotting of film & TV Star ‘Noor’ followed by a dance performance & in the end a funny singing segment on the song I’m Sexy and I Know it, by Ahmed Ali Butt. Where he was kinda playing and trying to flirt with the models. Quite a lively end to the show.

Then a singing segment/ special performance by Shiraz Uppal while the wardrobe was given by Mehdi for the Act.BaapnNBCYAAVqR-.jpg large

The next designer to come up with a collection was Aisha Imran. Her Collection was a Tribute to the late legendary singer ‘Reshma’. The entire show experienced Reshma Ji’s music in the background. The outfits were majorly long flair coats, Anghrakhas, Anarkalis & floor lengths. There were Kaali’s with different textures & sequins. Few Chunnri’s & Gota work was also seen. Filmstar ‘Resham’ was spotted as the show stopper.

Aisha Imran 7

The Show one for day 3 was finalized by Raani Emaan. The show was opened by a musical performance. The articles were majorly layerings, long lengths, simple Men’s Line, velvet used in linings & borders. The trio who were the show stoppers were the Tiwana Brothers, Asim Yaar Tiwana & Qasim Yar Tiwana (AYT & QYT) and the lady who makes mornings more beautiful, Shahista Wahidi. Saw here live for the 1st time & realized that she is so damn gorgeous :)

Stepping into the second half we had the 1st show by ‘Mehdi’.

From a long time wanted to see Mehdi’s work walking on the ramp and got the honor at PBCW 2013 Lahore. The collection featured 3 acts. The 1st had the darker tones of Blue like dark, Royal & Navy. The next had shades of pinks & the finals were beige, gold & red. The trends were quite common in all the 3 sets. That had layerings, long lengths, Sarees, & maxis. The show-stopper was Eman Ali who was also wearing a red & beige heavy embroidered Lehanga & front open long shirt.

Up next was Asifa & Nabeel. Their Men’s line I’m already in love with but their Bridals made me an A&N fan. From the opening the cuts were simple and straight. Some flairy rather straight cuts with work on them in lighter amount. Which to some extent is practical and also easy to carry. Mostly lighter shades were chosen including beige in rich amount. One thing that I loved was the embroidered motives on the sleeves. Their show spotted singer Shiraz Uppal.

The grand finale for the event was done by none other than ‘The Master of Couture’, HSY. A dedication to the living lengend, Tahira Syed.

HSY 1
HSY showcased his collection Nightingale, a tribute to our Folk Singer, Tahira Syed. The collection consisted of shimmer as well as Matte fabrics, with layerings & long lengths. A set Of beige gold men’s Sherwaanis which are best served by HSY & a few darker colors along with lighter & vibrant beautiful embellishments & sequins. I salute HSY & thank God for gifting us & Pakistan with this gem. The name HSY completes its 20 glorious years the next month, wishing them a 100 more……

The PBCW is done with its second day.

The day started with Zainab Chottani, with her collection Rang o Raag. The collection takes its inspiration from the Mughal Era’s. The Show started with HSY leading set 1. The set had male models in Black Kurtas, female models in long fairy tailed attires & HSY in black embroidered Sherwani.

The show was followed by more attire having long tailed gowns, Shararas, heavy embroidered uppers & lowers, long Duppattas & Lehangas were creating a complete historic scene.

The next was Erum Khan. Her collection was inspired by the Gulf & Arabian regions. Many colors with many types of prints were shown. Large sequined Plazzos, Velvet Lehangas & Saarees and an embroidered jumpsuit, really attracted me during the show. Hamza Abbassi walked the ramp for Erum. And the ‘Mera Sultan’ music during his walk just electrified the audience.

IMG_9677

It was followed by an amazing LED dance performance, which actually made you realize the talent of Pakistan.

Up next was Bina Sultan. The show started with lighter tones like white and by the end moved to vibrant & Blacks. The use of velvet was very intelligently handled i.e. in Duppattas & Pallous. Many Micro Cholis, Backless & off shoulders were shown by the label. I would say Bina played quite a bold game but yes a well played one.
IMG_9921
The next show I kinda waited for and it was by Humayun Alamgir. The motto behind his collection was to show case a wearable & men’s preferable Sherwanis. The use of fabrics like Jmawaar, Velvet & Khaddar was done. All accompanied with Khussas & Kulas/Paags. His show spotted live singing segment by Uzair Jaswal, and his show stoppers were Nouman Javed & Shoiab Malik.
IMG_0027
Now was the turn of our very own Maria B. Her showcasing was named Kunder. Her show featured live Classical Music by Nayab from Raga Boys. Her collection was portrayed in 3 sets. The 1st one had the theme of White. The works of Mukesh on long Anarkali looked gorgeous. The next part had mixed colors in it with typical bridal looks for Mehndi & Mayoon. The last was Reds & Maroons, the Sherwaani’s were kept simple & similar. In short Maria B played a safe game & designed every outfit keeping market in priority.

IMG_0214

Up next was TEENA by Hina Butt. Her showcasing was called, The Splendor. Designs displayed all the modern day bridal trends, Oranges, Greens, Purples, Reds were in her pallette. Yet it was a good collection.
IMG_0505
Tilkari is the name of the collection showcased by Saira Rizwan. Short shirts as well as long, jackets & gowns were her major cuts, and the paints moved within the jewel range.
IMG_0799
The last but not the least for the day was Ali Xeeshan with his show titled PANCHAYAT.
Ali has his own way of showcasing, which is undoubtedly very creative or beyond the expectations. A set & drama are his necessities. He designs choreography along with the collection a crowded stage with a very complimenting music. His collection was a colorful experience to the eyes. Juggan Kazim stopped the show for Ali. Every single article of his collection was to die for.
